Visit Slate Run Historical Farm to see some piglets

Columbus, we don’t know about you, but we love us some baby animals. 

And while wildlife seems cutest right around springtime, you don’t have to wait that long to get your fix. 

If you head over to Slate Run Living Historical Farm, you’ll get to see–wait for it–PIGLETS.

The China Poland piglets at Slate Run Farm are born in the fall and spring, said Peg Hanley, public information manager with Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. Right now, visitors can see them running from the shed outside to the pens. 

“We ask that folks abide by social distancing and please wear a mask if they are in contact with others not in their immediate circle, and no mass gatherings of more than 10,” Hanley said. 

The farm is located at 1375 State Route 674 in Canal Winchester, and you can visit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday to Sunday for free. 

The historical farm depicts what rural life was like here in the 1880s. In addition to pigs, you’ll find geese, turkeys, Percheron horses, and other animals. 

The farmhouse was built in 1856 in a gothic revival style, and restored by Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks. Samuel Oman, fourth owner of Slate Run Farm, built the barn, which was restored by Amish carpenters.

The farm is a neat place to see anytime of the year, but we especially enjoy timing our visits to see some baby animals. Grab your coat and get out there this weekend.
