The Rules: Memorial Tournament to be first post-COVID-19 PGA event with fans

One of Dublin’s biggest parties of the year has been given another green light to go ahead with the rescheduled tournament in July.

The Memorial Tournament had been postponed until July 16-19 in mid-April, and, as of now, all things are a go for the mid-July reschedule. The celebration at Muirfield Village will begin on July 13 and will also be the first PGA event to host fans since the pandemic.

The PGA will have its first post-COVID-19 test this week with the teeing off of the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, TX. While Memorial Tournament hopefuls await the results of this week’s PGA social-distancing initial test, Gov. Mike DeWine made an official announcement Friday regarding the tournament’s safety plan to have guests attend.

Six of those protocols that will need to be followed at all times include:

  • required face mask
  • check temperature upon entry
  • encourage hand washing and install frequently-placed hand-sanitizing stations
  • cleaning of surfaces during and between Tournament rounds
  • strict guidelines for employees and volunteers
  • limited capacity for social distancing

The specifics of social distancing at the Memorial Tournament, including an 8,000-person limit,  were outlined in an event activation plan, which can be found here.
