Cherished Picnic with the Pops series canceled for 2020
Gathering at the Columbus Commons with family and friends may not be a possibility until 2021 with the latest cancellation. Picnic with the Pops, originally set to kick off this coming Sunday, won’t take place in any capacity this year, according to a press release from the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.
Picnic with the Pops is the CSO’s annual way of celebrating time with the family and bringing in popular acts from around the world for a distinct orchestral performance on the lawn of the Commons.
A shortened version of the annual Picnic with the Pops event was originally rescheduled for July. However, with today’s announcement, no CSO events will take place at the Commons in 2020.
Popcorn Pops, the outdoor summer concert series for children, will also be put on hold until 2021.
CSO Executive Director Denise Rehg said this in a press release on Friday:
“The safety of our patrons must take precedence this year, but we look forward to a fantastic comeback in the summer of 2021.”
Picnic with the Pops would have begun this coming Sunday with a performance by Ben Folds. That specific event was canceled in April when there was still hope of a condensed form of the Picnic with the Pops series.
