Participate in global video project Life in a Day this Saturday

When director Kevin Macdonald asked people from all over the world to chronicle their entire day on July 24, 2010, the result was the incredible and raw 2011 documentary Life in a Day. The project is considered the largest participatory film ever created, with over 80,000 submissions and 4,500 hours of footage from 189 countries.

Ten years laters, Mcdonald has once again teamed up with acclaimed producer Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator) to follow up with Life in a Day 2020

Mcdonald and Scott have asked the global public to submit personal footage taken throughout the day this Saturday, July 25. The footage will once again be compiled into a feature film to premiere at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival.

It will be interesting to see the parallels between the 2010 edition and what is to come of the 2020 footage. This year has been far from normal: bush fires, protests, a global pandemic. From a historical perspective, when it comes to years to be documented, there is no better time than now for Life in a Day to take place.

To give structure to the footage, participants can answer these four questions for Macdonald: What do you love?; What do you fear?; What would you like to change?; What’s in your pocket?

You can find filming tips here and upload your footage between July 25 and Aug. 2 here.
