New free food market coming to Columbus

The City of Columbus is building a free food market with pharmacy access and health screenings at 1464 Cleveland Avenue. 

The Linden Fresh Market will renovate the former Eagle Market that stood at that location, thus also eliminating a nuisance property, said Mayor Andrew Ginther. 

“Through a $1.5 million dollar investment by the City of Columbus, this property will be transformed. The Linden Fresh Market will fill a hole in the neighborhood for access to fresh food and prescriptions,” said Ginther.

The city is partnering with the Healthy Families Healthy Neighborhoods Reality Collaborative and Columbus Next Generation Corporation on the project. 

There is a similar establishment on Parsons Avenue, which was built in 2018 and is now one of the highest volume distribution sites in central Ohio.

Membership to the All People’s Fresh Market on Parsons Avenue is free, but based on income eligibility. Members there also receive the benefit of health and wellness coaching. 

Construction of the Linden Fresh Market is scheduled to begin in September with the aim of serving the residents of Linden by early spring 2021.
