Ballot Issue would raise Ohio minimum wage to $13

According to paperwork filed with the Ohio Attorney General, a new ballot issue is in the works to increase Ohio’s minimum wage to $13 an hour by Jan. 1, 2025.

Once approvals are obtained from Attorney General Dave Yost and the Ohio Ballot Board, a petition with signatures from 442,958 registered Ohio voters would need to be completed by July 1 for the issue to make the November 2020 ballot.

If successful, the proposed increase to the minimum wage would be rolled out between 2021 and 2025. Further increases tied to the rate of inflation would follow.

The minimum wage for non-tipped workers in Ohio currently sits at $8.70 an hour, which is lower than the minimum in 23 other states.
