Busy time for Red Cross volunteers from Central Ohio

Lori Schmidt

The Central and Southern Ohio Red Cross is sending dozens of volunteers to assist in areas of Oregon, California, and other parts of the United States west currently battling record-setting deadly wildfires.

Right now, the Red Cross notes, there are currently 14 large uncontained fires spanning 819,000 acres.

In addition to deploying personnel to the area, Ohio is also providing three Emergency Response Vehicles, which are expected to arrive in Salem, Oregon on Wednesday. They will offer mobile feeding, relief supplies, and other critical disaster relief services.

On top of all this, the Central and Southern Ohio Red Cross has dozens of volunteers helping residents of the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Laura. They are also bracing for Hurricane Sally, which is expected to make landfall between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning, bringing with it “history-making” rains.

Those wishing to donate to the Red Cross in order to aid them in their mission can do so here.
