Cola Caper: Police looking for $17,000 stolen from school vending machine

Apparently, there’s big money to be made in vending machines. So much so that a thief in a Worthington school was able to make off with a whopping $17,000 over a period of six years.

According to ThisWeek News, Ohio’s State Auditor Keith Faber recently revealed that the funds were missing from a vending machine at Linworth Alternative School. Faber reported that from 2013 to 2019, cash disbursements from the machine exceeded receipts deposited—to the tune of $17K.

After the district became aware of the discrepancy, an administrative secretary responsible for collecting and depositing the money from the machine in question resigned. The secretary’s resignation letter stated that she resigned for “personal reasons.” So far, no arrests have been made in the case, but an investigation by Worthington Police is ongoing.

Thankfully, Worthington Schools were able to recover the majority of the missing funds through an insurance claim.
