Survey shows that many Ohio teachers may only see one-in-four students attend online class

The outbreak of COVID-19 has sent shockwaves through the education system as every school in Ohio has been ordered to close. Many of these schools have turned to remote or online learning and one month into this, a survey shows that 44 percent of Ohio teachers said less than 25 percent of their students are showing up for class.

According to Fishbowl, a platform for professionals to connect and problem solve within their industries, the survey consisted of one question: how many students are attending your remote class? The overall result was 38 percent of Ohio students are showing up for class. Additional findings are as followed:

  • 44 percent of Ohio teachers said less than 25 percent of students are showing up for class
  • 17.65 percent of Ohio teachers said 26 to 50 percent of students are showing up for class
  • 20.17 percent of Ohio teachers said 51 to 75 percent of students are showing up for class
  • 17.65 percent of Ohio teachers said more than 75 percent of students are showing up for class

Of the other states surveyed, more than 40 percent of teachers in both California and North Carolina are also reporting that less than 25 percent of students are showing up for class. For a complete look at all the states who participated in the survey, an infographic is below.
