“We are open as a community,” Westerville signs pro-refugee resolution
As of Tuesday night, refugees are officially allowed to resettle in Westerville, following the passage of a resolution by the Westerville City Council. The resolution passed by a vote of 7-0.
“It does not commit any city resources, it doesn’t obligate us to a certain number of refugees or anything of that sort. It simply says that we are open as a community, as we have been in the past,” said Westerville City Manager David Collinsworth, per 10TV.

Ohio has given the green light to refugees seeking asylum since President Trump sign an order in September saying the federal government should resettle refugees only in communities where the state and local governments have consented.
An affiliate of Community Refugee & Immigration Service told 10TV that the agency resettle approximately 250 refugees in Central Ohio.
In a letter to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Christmas Eve, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine made it clear that the state will welcome more refugees from “all corners of the globe.”
