Danger lurks at intersections: Columbus is a hotspot for car crashes

There were 438,553 car crashes in Ohio from 2014-2019, and 1,135 of them occurred at 25 specific intersections in Columbus. 

Data visualization agency 1Point21 Interactive and law firm Elk & Elk Co., Ltd analyzed the data from these accidents and found that Columbus is especially treacherous for drivers.

Nearly half of the state’s top 50 most dangerous intersections are located in Columbus. That’s more than any other Ohio city, and it includes the state’s most dangerous intersection at Cleveland Ave. and Morse Rd. During that 2014-2019 time frame, there were 71 crashes and 52 injuries that occurred there. 

In total, these 25 Columbus intersections accounted for 840 minor injuries, 99 serious injuries, and four fatalities. 

Here are the five worst Columbus intersections according to the research: 

  • Cleveland Ave. and Morse Rd. 
  • Hamilton Rd. and Livingston Ave.
  • Karl Rd. and Morse Rd.
  • Hilliard Rome Rd. and Renner Rd. 
  • Cleveland Ave. and Dublin Granville Rd.
