Columbus firefighters deliver 9-pound baby on the side of Route 315

The next time you’re caught in traffic on Route 315, it might be for a different reason than you think. Earlier this month, a healthy baby boy was born on the side of the busy Columbus highway.

On Oct 11., Columbus firefighters from Station 6 and Station 27 responded to a call about a woman in labor on the side of Route 315 North.

It’s unclear whether there simply wasn’t time to transport her to a hospital, but the call resulted in firefighters successfully delivering the woman’s 9-pound, 5-ounce baby boy. He was 20.5 inches long.

Photos taken by on-scene firefighters show the mother’s white SUV on the shoulder of Route 315, with a fire engine angled across the road’s right-hand lane, blocking traffic.

The baby’s family members made sure to show their appreciation for the multi-talented Columbus firefighters, too. They stopped by Station 27 with him to thank the squad, as well as pose for a few well-deserved photos.
