A volunteer at a Columbus Festival thwarted a man’s attempt to kidnap a child, Columbus Police said.

Katema Faye, a 20 year-old Columbus man, was arrested on June 25 and charged with a third degree felony after trying to abduct a child from a local fundraising festival.

According to court documents, Faye grabbed a 6 year-old exiting a bounce house at the ISKCON Temple Festival in Hilliard.

After allegedly grabbing the child’s hand and attempting to lead them away from the festival, a volunteer caught sight of the incident and confronted Faye.

According to Columbus Police, the volunteer asked Faye if the child was his. He answered ‘yes’, while the child said ‘no.’

Faye was arraigned on June 27, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 5.
