Following Texas tragedy, popular Clintonville business donating every cent of profits today to organization battling gun violence

In the photo accompanying a social media post from the eclectic Clintonville retailer Tigertree, alphabet blocks spell out the words “Do Something.”

In the wake of yesterday’s tragedy–where at least 21 elementary students lost their lives in a shooting–the photo’s message hits home.

And Tigertree is taking its own advice.

Today, the popular store plans to donate 100 percent of its profits to Everytown for Gun Safety–commonly referred to as just Everytown–a New York-based nonprofit billed as “the largest gun prevention organization in America” by the group.

“I just dropped my daughter off at school. I added a few blocks to the bike ride, which I told her was ‘for fun,’ but it was really because I didn’t want to. It’s a feeling all parents are familiar with. You hug your kid a little tighter and a little longer. You watch them until they enter the building, or the bus, or get lost in the crowd, and that’s the moment your ability to protect them ends.

I refuse to accept that nothing can or will be done to stop this. I hope you do too,” said Tigertree co-owner Josh Quinn.

Quinn said he believes Everytown has the capability to curb the often complex and partisan issue of stopping gun violence. And while he noted his donation won’t turn the tide itself, he noted it’s equally important as a symbolic gesture of unity.

“I realize the amount we’ll donate is insignificant in the grand scheme of the problem,” he said. “However, I think it’s important to let your community know that you support them. Speaking from experience, parents of young children in particular are looking for support here.”
