Ku Klux Klan recruitment flyers distributed in Worthington

Jack McLaughlin

Multiple Worthington residents reported receiving recruitment material from the Ku Klux Klan earlier this week.

According to several residents, flyers distributed by the East Coast Knights of the Ku Klux Klan were discovered on Monday morning. One resident, mm nwho wished to remain anonymous, said at least eight houses on their block received fliers. It’s unclear exactly how many were sent.

“It’s terrible to see that.  We all know the KKK exists but I always felt like: ‘They aren’t here; not in Ohio,’” the resident said. “It’s frustrating that I couldn’t catch them on my cameras that would usually pick something like this up.”

The fliers were left at the end of driveways, out of sight of many doorbell cameras. A link to a Ku Klux Klan membership website appears on them as well.

“This is definitely recruitment,” the Worthington resident said of the materials.

Frustrated by the presence of the fliers, the resident opted to remove any they found remaining.

“I was so frustrated that the KKK dropped off papers that I took matters into my own hands,” they said. “I walked down my street and collected the six flyers that remained just to settle some of my personal anger, and to keep at least some of the POC that live in my neighborhood from seeing that.”

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, The Daily Stormer, a far-right message board, has its roots in Worthington. It’s currently unclear if there is any connection between both groups.
