The Columbus Zoo reveals their new, all electric train

All aboard the new sustainable train at The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium!

In an effort to keep sustainability first and foremost, the Columbus Zoo has converted their guest-favorite North American Train ride to a new system that runs completely on lithium-ion battery instead of compressed natural gas.

This provides guests with a smoother ride, and it emits zero emissions, “aligning with the Zoo’s green initiatives to make a difference for wildlife and the planet,” said Jen Fields, the Director of Communications at The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.

Along with being environmentally-friendly, this updated train now features:

  • 4 coaches that can accommodate up to 52 riders
  • Fun audio effects
  • Auto, in-station rapid charging

You can hop on now, daily, throughout October 29th for $2 a person (or complimentary for Gold Members), then on the weekends only until November 15th. The train will then start operating daily again for the “12 Days of Wildlights” train ride.

“The North America Train is the most popular ride with our guests, and we are proud to offer our community this fun experience while reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our core values of working toward a more sustainable future,” said Jen Ryan, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s Senior Vice President of Operations and Sustainability.
