Columbus pizzeria inspired by a local favorite spot has opened its doors

The northwest side of Columbus has lost one pizzeria, but gained another.

While Romeo’s, the Medina-based pizza restaurant, closed the doors of its location at 2052 Crown Plaza Dr., Unit 7 on June 30, Luna Pizza Kitchen has opened its second location in its place.

Owner Waqas Shafiq operates one other Luna Pizza Kitchen, which is located at 5380 Tuttle Crossing Blvd. in Dublin. According to Shafiq, Luna’s original location in Dublin first opened in 2014, when he purchased a former Classics Pizza location next to Classics Sports Bar, which is located at 5570 Tuttle Crossing Blvd. Classics Sports Bar has remained at its Tuttle Crossing storefront, and Luna Pizza Kitchen currently offers a delivery service to patrons at the bar.

Shafiq said he has kept his pizza recipes largely the same as Classics–a Columbus favorite–bringing in only a select number of tweaks.

“When I bought it, we changed the name from Classics Pizza to Luna Pizza Kitchen, but we kept the recipe almost all the same,” he said. “The only difference is our pepperoni, and some of our specialty pizzas.”

In addition to Columbus-style pies, Luna PIzza Kitchen is also known for its sandwiches, particularly its chicken sub, offered in Philly, Buffalo and Southern varieties, in addition to a Chicken Ranch Sub.
