Families are loving this Ohio swimming & diving quarry that looks like the Caribbean (with no sharks!)
Looking for a staycation that feels like a getaway to the Caribbean but without the price (and unpredictable aquatic life)? We know a place.
Just a two hour drive away from Downtown Columbus, a local quarry awaits in Gibsonburg, OH called White Star Quarry, and it’s fun for both scuba divers and those looking to lounge on the beach.

The scuba diving section of the water is stocked with rare fish and fascinating underwater attractions, such as abandoned buses, sunken boats, and even motorcycles.
The adjacent White Star Beach offers a crystal-clear swimming and relaxation area, too. Depths reach around 15 feet, but there’s a designated shallow area for wading, as well. Visitors can bask in the sun on the sandy shore, float in the tranquil water, or jump off the diving board – all with the reassurance of having lifeguards on duty. Their website says that their water is “…rivaling the Caribbean in clarity,” and looking at pictures, we’d have to agree.

Other attractions and facilities include concession stands with drinks & snacks, play equipment, tables, grills, restrooms, volleyball courts, nature trails, mountain bike trails, a boat ramp, shelters, a fishing platform, and even camping. There are horse trails located nearby, too.
For more information, such as hours, closures due to staffing shortages, diving gear rentals, park rules, pricing, safety, and other necessities, visit their website. White Star Quarry is located at 901 S Main St, Gibsonburg, OH 43431.
