After retiring not even a year ago, beloved Columbus meteorologist passes away

The man, the myth, the weather legend himself announced in May of last year that he would be retiring after nearly 60-years of keeping viewers informed on weather related activity to instead, focus on his family and grandkids.
Former NBC4 chief meteorologist Jym Ganahl passed away at 76 on February 3, his family announced. His family said that Ganahl died of natural causes.

Ganahl spent decades providing forecasts to central Ohio, for stations like NBC4 and ABC6. His interest in the weather started at age 12, when he became irritated that TV forecasters were wrong about anticipated snow days. “So, I studied why that was happening,” says Ganahl’s biography on ABC6.

At age 17, before even starting college, Ganahl walked into a TV station and told them he could do the job better. They hired him for 6 nights a week while he was studying at the University of Iowa, and he’s been in the weather biz ever since.
Ganahl’s tenure as the longest weather career on TV is currently being verified by the Guinness Book of World Records. He will truly be missed.
