‘Cannes of Horror:’ Local film festival is a destination for horror fans worldwide
An international hotspot for horror films kicks off today in Columbus.
Nightmares Film Festival (NFF), the legendary horror-focused event now in its 10th year, officially opens today at Gateway Film Center, which is located at 1550 N. High St. The four-day horror extravaganza will run through Oct. 19.
Doubling down for its tenth anniversary, this year’s NFF boasts a packed slate including 18 features, 130 shorts and 120 filmmakers and screenwriters in attendance.

“Nightmares takes over the entire film center,” Gateway Film Center CEO Chris Hamel said in a press release. “From the cinemas to the speakeasy to the panels and late-night conversations, every corner buzzes with energy. Fans and filmmakers leave with new friends, new collaborators, and the feeling that they were part of something historic.”
Speaking of historic, this year’s festival is positively jam-packed with premieres and cult-classics, including:
–Adrian Tofei’s nine-years-in-the-making We Put the World to Sleep (world premiere), with Adrian and co-star Duru Yucel in attendance.
–Kevin Lewis’ twisted cult mystery Pig Hill (North American premiere), with Kevin in attendance.
–Chris Stuckmann’s eagerly awaited directorial debut Shelby Oaks (Midwest premiere), with Chris in attendance.
–Robbie Banfitch’s newest descent into terror, Tinsman Road (Midwest premiere).

Thu – 6-10 p.m.
Fri – 4-10:30 p.m.
Sat – 12 p.m.-12 a.m.
Sun – 12-4 p.m.
