Columbus creator ‘Black Forager’ makes 2025 Time100 Creators List
Alexis Nikole Nelson out of Columbus has been named to the Time100 Creators List this year, amongst other popular creators like Sean Evans of Hot Ones, and Alex Cooper from Call Her Daddy. Nelson, known as @blackforager online, was named in the Catalysts category, meaning that these creators “thrive in their niche.”
Nelson is renowned on both Instagram and TikTok as @blackforager for her funny (and extremely educational) foraging content. What exactly is foraging, you may ask? For the uninitiated, foraging is collecting wild food sources for consumption, like edible plants, berries, and mushrooms. And Nelson is an absolute pro, with her signature line: “Happy snacking. Don’t die!”
Nelson creates entertaining videos — that she shares with over 6 million followers — full of safety tips, foraging recipes, and examples of her favorite plants to forage both locally and in other states. Per Time.com:
“Nelson’s ability to blend ecology with culinary traditions, often rooted in African American and Indigenous cultures, helped earn her the inaugural James Beard Award for Best Social Media Account in 2022—just one year after the self-taught forager left her office job to become a full-time content creator. With her first cookbook on the horizon, the 33-year-old will continue to nudge her audience offline and into the wild.”

Nelson posted her Time100 Creators photo on social media, sharing:
“YALL!! I’m on @time magazines list of the 100 most influential creators!?!? Me???
Last night I got a chance to do something this job doesn’t always have built in: hanging out with other creators (and so many who inspire me!) It really gave me a moment to pause and recognize how much I have to be grateful for. Getting to make a living teaching, snacking, frolicking, learning, and advocating for our planet… it’s a dream I never thought was possible.”
Comments have rolled in from other local Columbus celebrities, like Jeni of Jeni’s Ice Cream and Nina West. Her post includes comments of support from other big names as well, from movie star Kate Dennings, to popular blogger and author Jenny Lawson.
Columbus is a city of multiple nationally-acclaimed restaurants, authors, and creatives. Be sure to follow Nelson at @blackforager to see her award-winning content for yourself!
