Columbus resident featured in ‘National Geographic’ alongside Selena Gomez for ‘striving to change the world’

In the most recent issue of National Geographic, you’ll find 33 people who are dedicated to making the world a better place: actors like Jason Momoa, Edward Norton, Michelle Yeoh, Don Cheadle, and Selena Gomez.
Also on this list includes Alexis Nikole Nelson, who’s now known around Columbus (and the world!) as Black Forager. Nelson teaches her 7 million social media followers how to forage in their own backyard to create delicious vegan meals or even grab a snack while out on a walk. Her social media videos often take us through a stroll in the streets of Columbus, where she shows us which plants are not only edible, but really good. Oh, and of course, which plants we should stay away from if we don’t want to end up like Socrates, who ate poisonous hemlock.

Nelson was tapped as one of National Geographic’s “change makers” in their recent issue for caring, “deeply about the values bred by a life spent in close contact with nature,” the publication said. “Our 2025 honorees are scientists, storytellers, thought leaders, and innovators who are tackling some of the most pressing issues of our time.”
