From soccer to singing, local student athlete Ella Beymer shows leadership

Jordan Abbruzzese

Ella Beymer is a senior at Worthington Kilbourne High School. While some students might take this time to coast, Beymer is locking in to embrace all the opportunities her school and the Worthington community has to offer.

Leading the soccer team this fall as team captain, Beymer has also assumed the role of student section leader for athletic events, student council vice president, president of the national honor society, is a member of the Worthington Singers, a freshman orientation leader, and plays lacrosse in the spring.

To stay on top of it all, Beymer keeps a detailed list, constantly communicates, and leans on her fellow students.

“It’s a lot on my plate, but I think it comes pretty naturally because I love to keep myself busy,” Beymer told 614NOW. “I make sure I get all my school work done, I go to practice, I go home and I am really crazy about checking my email to make sure I haven’t missed anything. Being in good communication with everyone I work with and being transparent with everyone is important.”

On the field, Beymer is embracing her second year of varsity soccer team captain. She has played soccer for as long as she can remember, and has played lacrosse since her elementary years.

“It means a lot to me to be able to cultivate and create a community that is kind, fun, and hardworking – and knowing my teammates trust me to be someone to lead them to that,” said Beymer. “Taking the lead to make sure people feel loved and supported in this community is important to me.”

To help develop her leadership skills, Beymer is a member of the Student Athletic Leadership Board at WKHS, an application-only group that meets once a month with a leadership trainer and coach. Beymer also serves her community through Wolves for Cubs, and Peace Ambassadors. Both are programs where Beymer and other students have the opportunity to connect with and mentor elementary school students in the district.

With her various clubs, commitments, and off-season training for both soccer and lacrosse, Beymer enjoys having a packed schedule.

“Me being involved is what has made Kilbourne feel so much like home for me,” Beymer said. “Doing all these things and reaching so many communities is important to me.”

“Being able to explore and express every part of who I am is also super important to me,” she added. “It’s how I am able to be my best self.”
