New HBO show set in Columbus, OH with mentions of multiple suburbs and a prominent high school
Five minutes into the first episode, my friends and I looked at each other. We heard the mention of Dublin Jerome High School, specifically the son in the episode saying his basketball team “whipped” New Albany’s team. And then we started hearing more references to nearby places, like New Albany, Newark, and even Canton.
Then, when someone’s desk in the show had a Brutus the Buckeye statue, we realized that this new HBO show starring Tim Robinson had to be set right here in Columbus. After some research, it’s clear that the show was filmed in New York, but is indeed set in Columbus, according to HBO representatives.

The Chair Company, which premiered on HBO last week, is about a Central Ohio man who’s planning on building a new mall in Canton, OH. During his presentation for the new mall, he sits in a chair and it breaks in front of the entire crowd, leading to his embarrassment. In true Tim Robinson fashion, he fixates on the ordeal, and tries to find the company behind the chair that led to his demise…only to find out that it leads back to an abandoned warehouse in Newark, OH.
You’ll have to keep watching to see if you find any other hints of Central Ohio! The Chair Company airs at 10 p.m. on Sundays.
