Columbus mall boasts ‘giving vending machines’ for holiday season
A philanthropic spin on the classic vending machine is now available at Polaris Fashion Place.
The Giving Machine, a vending machine that allows patrons to donate directly to a number of impactful charities and non-profits, is in Columbus until Dec. 6.
The program is part of the Light of the World Initiative and is sponsored by the Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints, and has reconfigured a number of vending machines to accept donations from individuals.

In place of selecting a snack of a drink, donors can select the from a number of items to be donated, like meals for kids, dog toys, refugee care kits, crisis consoling and even transportation assistance.
These items and services are then donated or realized through the help of charities, including Star House, the Salvation Army, Canine Companions, the UN Refugee Agency and many more.
“The mission of the Giving Machine is to lift individuals and unite communities. The act of going to the machine and selecting what you want to give is intentional,” said Colin Wylie, Giving Machine Columbus marketing and communications coordinator. “It allows the giver to think and feel a level of connection with the charities, more than just donating a sum of money online. It’s a special experience that we are glad to share with others.”
After Dec. 6, the Giving Machine will continue its tour around the country. There are currently also Giving Machines stationed in Cleveland and Cincinnati.
