Columbus man named world champion of competitive knife throwing

When it comes to knives, Coleman Bates doesn’t miss. 

After taking third place in the World Knife Throwing League’s USA Pro-AM Championships in late 2023, the Columbus resident officially became the World Knife Throwing League (WKTL) champion on April 6. 

You can watch the full event, which took place in Appleton, Wisconsin, here. The knife-throwing finals begin at the 1 hour, 52 minute mark.

Coleman took the top spot in the Standard Knife championship, while the duo of Sebastian Arnold and Thomas Antoniello won the Knife Duals championship. Bates defeated Tennessee resident Lucas Laine Johnson in the Standard Knife Championship finals.

Bates, who formerly represented the Dublin location of Throw Nation (which is now closed), currently represents the axe and knife throwing bar’s Jeffersonville storefront, which is located approximately 45 minutes southwest of Downtown Columbus.
