Second annual Oyster Festival taking over Downtown this weekend

Sav McKee

For oyster aficionados, September is the best month out of the year. Apparently, oysters are at their very best only in the months that contain the letter “r” in them, so September kicks off the true oyster season.

And of course, Hank’s Seafood, known for their seafood towers and delicious, fresh oysters, is throwing a giant party to celebrate. The Downtown restaurant is commemorating the start of oyster season in a huge celebration taking place Downtown, all revolving around – yes, you guessed it – oysters.

On Sunday, September 14 from 12-4, the outdoor festival hosted by Hank’s Seafood will take place beneath Janet Echelman’s “Current” sculpture, taking over the intersection of Gay and High Streets.

The festival will include oyster shucking, oyster roasting, and an array of Low Country, Southern-inspired dishes, plus wine, cold beer, and signature cocktails!

A Kids Zone will be available, with oyster shell painting and hands-on crafts so the whole family can soak up the lively atmosphere and music throughout the afternoon.

While access to the festival is completely free, the food and beverages can be purchased at the event. RSVP here!
