The city’s ‘first Italian charm bar’ is opening this month in the Short North
If you have a single crafty bone in your body, and even if you don’t, you’re likely already aware of charm bars. But what about an Italian charm bar?
Pottechely, which according to owner Valerie Tran takes its name from the French word for “little pocket,” will hold its grand opening on Oct. It’s located at 1589 N. High St.
Tran says it will be Columbus’ first Italian charm bar.

But what, exactly, is an Italian charm?
While typical charms are affixed to a ring that connects to the bracelet itself, Italian charms are typically smaller, flat, interconnecting modules, and the charms themselves make up the bracelet.

“This past February, my partner and I went to Vietnam, and we made our first Italian charm bracelets there,” Tran said. “We felt like the Italian charm bar experience was super different. I’d never seen or heard anything like it before, and right now it’s only in LA and New York from what I’ve seen. I felt like there was a space for it here.”
Another benefit to the Italian style, according to Tran, is the universal nature of the charms.
“You get them here, or you can get them in New York. It doesn’t matter, they’ll all connect the same,” she said.
Pottechely, which opened in April as a pop-up, will offer more than 500 Italian charm designs.
