Walmart’s $9 billion ‘Stores of the Future’ coming to Central Ohio
In an investment of $9 billion, Walmart is creating ‘Stores of the Future’ in 30 different states, and multiple of them will be here in Central Ohio.
“Each store is designed to deliver a more modern shopping experience and improve the lives of our associates and customers from the moment they step into the new space,” said Walmart’s press release.
Changes include a more modern storefront, with a designated area to grab a quick snack or drink. They’re also making it easier for Pickup & Delivery and DoorDashing. Refreshed exteriors and interiors feature new paint, new signs, and more shopping carts, and a new checkout design based on customer feedback.

Expanded pharmacies and updated vision centers are also included in this remodel. New activated corners feature novel displays that let customers interact with items, too, and other departments are pulling big and bulky merchandise from boxes so customers can touch, feel, and visualize how it fits into their lives. Digital touch points are being placed throughout the store to provide more info on products and services, too.
Other changes include more space and room in general, plus a “dollar shop” with seasonally relevant products at Every Day Low Prices.
Only 150 stores nationwide are planned to be converted to these “Stores of the Future,” and 23 of them were chosen in Ohio. Central Ohio will have six of the stores renovated hopefully by the end of this year:
- 555 Colemans Crossing Blvd., Marysville
- 3657 E. Main St., Whitehall
- 2700 Bethel Rd., Columbus
- 2793 Taylor Rd., Reynoldsburg
- 50 E. Shrock Rd., Westerville
- 1470 S. Court St., Circleville
