58 year old iconic bar that closed last year finds new home
Last August, an institution here in Columbus for nearly 60 years announced they’d have to close.
“I’m so sorry I couldn’t save the The Stube,” said Craig Kempton, the owner of the iconic Bier Stube, located at 1479 N. High St. since 1966.
The closure was due to plans for a new apartment building in that area, approved by the University Area Commission.
But it’s not over.

In March, 614Now saw liquor permits that got us pretty excited. A liquor license application was filed with the state for 234 King Ave. under the Bier Stube name. The space, which used to be Junior’s Bar & Grill, is right across the street from Pelino’s Pasta and The Bottle Shop.
And yesterday, Bier Stube confirmed on Facebook that they’re moving there on Facebook. “It became official today,” they said in a comment. They’ve already changed their address on Facebook to 234 King Ave. as well!
The new Stube is projected to open sometime this winter.
