614 Feast digs into his top 5 Columbus diners
Diners are old school, classic, and iconic places where breakfast and lunch are served all day. When you’re at a diner, are you team breakfast or team lunch? I almost always go with breakfast because eggs are eggcellent, and biscuits and gravy are pure comfort on a plate. Here are five feast-worthy diners in Columbus:
George’s Beechwold Diner (4408 Indianola Ave) For breakfast, I go Biscuits & Gravy: two fluffy buttermilk biscuits smothered in rich sausage gravy (and yes, add bacon). If you’re in the mood for lunch, go for the Corned Beef Reuben with Swiss, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island on grilled rye.
Delaney’s Diner (multiple) For breakfast, try the Breakfast Conewich: three fluffy scrambled eggs with grilled onions, green peppers, and cheese, all stuffed into a conewich and served with shredded hash browns. For lunch: PastaSalvi, a Columbus favorite. Egg noodles in a cream sauce with scallions are coated in panko, fried until golden, and served with a creamy middle that makes every bite worth it.

Chef-O-Nette Restaurant (2090 Tremont Ctr) They nail all the diner staples, but I’ve got two favorites. For breakfast, go with the Biscuits and Gravy: two buttermilk biscuits topped with sausage gravy and served with two eggs. For lunch, their housemade broasted chicken fingers are a must. Crispy, golden, and served with fries and housemade ranch.
Starliner Diner (4121 Main St, Hilliard) With its quirky décor and Cuban-inspired menu, Starliner Diner has been a longtime Columbus favorite. For breakfast, I recommend the Starliner Burrito: chorizo, scrambled eggs, jack cheese, and refried beans all wrapped up and topped with ranchero sauce and sour cream, served with their crispy home fries. For lunch, go with the Cuban Sandwich, stacked with thick-sliced marinated pork, hickory-smoked ham, Swiss cheese, mustard, and pickles on a pressed hoagie roll, and served with plantains.
Café Creekside (53 Granville St, Gahanna) A cozy neighborhood staple that’s all about big portions and comfort food. For breakfast, order the Big Nasty: sliced redskin potatoes, sausage gravy, three eggs, cheese, and bacon piled high on two biscuits. For lunch, the Patty Melt is a must, served on grilled rye with sautéed onions and provolone cheese for that perfect diner-style bite.
