614 feast rolls out his five favorite bagel sandwiches in Columbus

Columbus knows how to make a great bagel, whether you’re after a chewy wood-fired bagel, a fully loaded breakfast sandwich, or a 24/7 bite to soak up last night’s decisions. From Montreal–New York hybrids to piled-high creations with hash browns, these bagels aren’t just breakfast, they’re a full-on feast. Here are five of my favorite bagel sandwiches:
The Lox Bagel Shop (772 N High St) This artisan bagel shop combines the best of Montreal and New York styles. The bagels are dense, chewy, and crusty in all the right ways, and they’re boiled and baked in a wood oven. The bagels on their own are great and the sandwiches rule too, my go-to is The Lox, with house-cured and smoked salmon, plain cream cheese, capers, pickled red onion, and cucumber.
German Village Coffee Shop (193 Thurman Ave) Iconic diner vibes since 1981. They’re known for their western omelet, but don’t sleep on the Breakfast Sandwich. Egg with your choice of ham, bacon, or sausage, plus American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Get it served on a bagel for a slight upcharge, trust me, it’s worth it.

Buckeye Donuts (multiple) Open 24/7 and always reliable. Obviously grab a donut, but don’t overlook their bagel sandwiches. I recommend the Gyro, Egg, and Cheese on an everything bagel. It’s salty, savory, and hits the spot whether it’s 2 p.m. or 2 a.m.
Cocky’s Bagel Sandwiches (multiple) They started in Cleveland as a food trailer and have since grown into three brick-and-mortars, known for their creative bagel sandwiches. Their Columbus shop at 1484 N High St is packed with options, but my go-to is the Big Daddy: a cheddar bagel stacked with bacon, sausage, egg, hash browns, garlic herb cream cheese, American cheese, and Cocky’s sauce.
Fox’s Bagel & Deli (multiple) You’ll find them inside The North Market and also in Bexley. Build your own bagel sandwich or go for my pick, the bacon, egg, and cheese bagel: scrambled eggs, regular bacon, and pepper jack cheese on an everything bagel. You can switch it up with turkey bacon and other cheeses too, but this combo always hits the spot.
I think these bagels are everything… but if I missed your spot let me know where to go!
