614 feast picks his 5 favorite Columbus chicken sandwiches

Anthony O'Connell

“Columbus chicken, chicken, what are you picking?”

A Raising Cane’s cashier once asked me that and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. I’m a certified chicken sandwich fan, especially buffalo or fried, but this week I wanted to herd the 614 flock toward something a little more varied. Whether it’s fried, grilled, or even vegan, Columbus is clucking full of craveable chicken sandwiches. These five are some of my feast-worthy favorites.

Atlas Tavern (8944 Lyra Drive) The Ranch Hand Crispy Chicken Sandwich is a flavor-packed bite: ranch-seasoned crispy chicken breast, buttermilk onion straws, Swiss cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and house ranch. As a ranch superfan, this hits all the marks: ranch seasoned chicken, layered textures, and a house-made ranch that pulls it all together.

Club 185 (185 E Livingston Ave) The Chicken, Bacon, & Havarti sandwich is a solid pick if you’re looking for a grilled option. Juicy grilled chicken, melted Havarti, crispy bacon, roasted red peppers, and mayo all come together on a bun. The Havarti adds a buttery, slightly sweet flavor that pairs nicely with the smoky bacon.

Goood Friends (171 N 4th St) The Ol Faithful brings spicy chicken together with le délice de bourgogne cheese, classy sauce, spicy bread and butter pickles, and hot honey on a telera roll. The roll is the x factor, it’s soft but sturdy, and packed with flavor. Enjoy this banger of a sandwich inside Jackie O’s on 4th or on their phenomenal patio.

Caffe DaVinci (3080 Tremont Rd) Chicken Parmigiana Sandwich. Before you get upset that I included a sub on my sandwich list, just know it’s literally called a sandwich on their menu. The lightly breaded chicken cutlet is fried to perfection, topped with rich tomato sauce and a generous layer of mozzarella cheese. What’s not to love?

Seitan’s Realm (3496 N High St) The Buffy Mac is a vegan chicken sandwich featuring: fried seitan chikun patty dipped in house-made buffalo sauce, topped with ranch, pickles, and mac n cheeze, all on a pretzel bun. Vegan or not, this one slaps. It’s playful, indulgent, and totally feast-worthy.

If you think this list is for the birds, let me know where the cluck to go next.
