75 year old Columbus-based ice cream shop announces new location, hints at further expansion

The newest Johnson’s Real Ice Cream location is landing in a matter of weeks.

According to an Instagram post from the Central Ohio brand, a new Powell storefront will open on March 6. It’s located at 4290 Home Rd. 

The new location will be Johnson’s first Powell store of two. It recently announced another new scoop shop that will be located at 50 S. Liberty St., in the former home of the alcohol-infused ice cream spot Buzzed Bull Creamery.

From 6-9 p.m. during its grand opening celebration, Johnson’s will be giving out one free scoop of ice per person.

The 75 year-old Central Ohio concept, which opened its original storefront in Bexley in 1950, has been rapidly expanding in the last year, opening three new locations in 2024, with three more slated to open this year.
