A new bar just opened in The Brewery District serving smash burgers, cocktails, and Hoster beer
“We’ve had several people who live in the Brewery District tell us this area used to be the heartbeat of the city,” said Jared France. “We wanted to be the people to bring back the spark in this area.”
Aptly named The Beat, this new bar at 460 S. Front St. is an extension of France’s other Brewery District concept he co-owns, Smash Buddies. The bar area is taking over The Speakeasy which is moving down the street to 520 S. Front St.

Their goal with The Beat is to “be the heartbeat that brings the Brewery District back to life,” France explained. The full bar will offer Gold Top and Vienna Lager on draft from Hoster Brewing Company, the oldest brewery in Columbus, which used to reside in the Brewery District (it’s now on the East Side though). Plus, a selection of wine, seltzers, cocktails, and a few N/A options. Pair all of that with a cheeseburger from Smash Buddies, and that’s a perfect night out.
Smash Buddies is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., while The Beat will be open 3 p.m. – 10 p.m. on weekdays, 3 p.m. – midnight on Friday, 11 a.m. – midnight on Saturday, and 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Sunday.
June 1 marks two years since Smash Buddies opened their food truck, and now, they operate a full Brewery District restaurant and bar. Congrats to them!
