After 30 years, Columbus pizzeria announces closure

Sparano’s Pizza is calling it quits after three decades of serving Columbus.

The concept announced in a social media post earlier this week that it has been purchased by another Ohio pizza concept, and is now closed.

Sparano’s owner Steve Hill told 614Now that Cappy’s pizza will not be retaining the Sparano’s name, nor any of its recipes.

Cappy’s, which been open since 1972, currently operates a pizzeria located at 225 Layfaette St. in London, Ohio, in addition to a food truck.

Here’s what Cappy’s had to say about the new pizzeria.

“We are happy to announce the opening of our  new Cappy’s Pizza at 3947 West Broad Street! Cappy’s Pizza has been an icon in London since 1972, and we will continue to serve and support our hometown of London, where it all began,” a social media post from the eatery reads. “We would like to thank Sparano’s Pizza for giving us the opportunity to take over their 30 year old pizza restaurant. Thank you for your continued support!”
