After being sold this year, Central Ohio restaurant closes; to be replaced by new concept
After being sold by Square Roots Restaurant Group earlier this year, a Newark eatery has closed in order to make way for a new concept.
According to a statement posted to its social media account over the weekend, Mariposa Mexican is now closed. The eatery was located at 5 N. 3rd St., in Newark. Mariposa officially closed after service on Saturday.
The statement noted that a new concept called Stockyard Grill will be taking over the former home of Mariposa.

In early June, Square Roots Restaurant Group, which operates concepts like 1922 on the Square and Shakedown Street Food, announced that it sold Mariposa to a new owner.
The new owner could not be reached for comment before this story was published, and it’s currently unclear when Stockyard Grill will take over, and exactly what the new eatery will serve.
