After five years, Grandview eatery lands new owners, new name

After five years, Grandview’s Basic Biscuits, Kindness & Coffee has been sold.

The eatery, which offers specialty biscuit sandwiches, quiche and more has been purchased by Kalie and Anthony Berin, who plan to roll out a rebrand and a new name for the breakfast spot: The Hive.

“When we realized [the space] was available, we came in and tried the menu items, and yeah, it has an amazing foundation, an amazing following within Grandview,” Kalie Berin said. “We just immediately saw the chance to put our stamp on things and grow the business.

While the new owners plan to continue serving the eatery’s namesake biscuits and biscuit sandwiches, there will likely be some changes coming down the line.

From a culinary standpoint, the duo hopes to expand the eatery’s menu, begin serving a wider variety of coffee drinks (outside of just drip coffee), add carryout beer and transform the interior (through “minimal” renovations) from a purely carryout space to one that can host dine-in patrons.

And while he noted none of their future plans for the space are “definitive,” Anthony Berin said the pair hopes to add a slate of art and community-focused events to the business, citing the possibility of a monthly book club, beer and wine tastings and even a weekly day where customers can bring in their own vinyl records to play kin the restaurant.

“Basic Biscuits is a staple in Grandview, and now we want to take what they’ve done and expand upon it,” he said.
