After leaving Columbus nearly two decades ago, popular chicken chain returning to Ohio

A popular, national fried chicken wing restaurant closed within six months of opening their first, and only, Ohio location in Columbus back in 2008, which was located near OSU at 2108 N. High St.
Zaxby’s quickly exited the Buckeye State, citing underperformance. But you know the saying – “Sometimes you have to leave to return.”

The chain known for their hand-breaded and fried chicken since 1990 was approved for new construction (with a drive-thru!) at the Liberty Township’s Board of Trustee meeting last month.
The restaurant will be located along Cox Road, near State Route 129/Veteran’s Boulevard, about an hour and a half away from Downtown Columbus. Construction has yet to begin, and an opening date hasn’t been announced.
Does this mean Zaxby’s could be making its way back to Columbus as well? Possibly! There are 900 other locations in the United States in 20 other states, and the chain continues to grow.
