After more than a decade of closure, popular deli owned by Pappas family makes anticipated return this week
In 1989, Tommy Pappas opened the legendary Tommy’s Diner in Franklinton. About 10 years later, his son Louie Pappas followed in his footsteps, venturing into the food world on his own, opening a deli with co-owner Demetra Stefanidis.
After decades of success, the popular Milo’s Deli began to outgrow the confines of their original storefront, located at 980 W. Broad St. Pappas told 614Now that with the catering aspect of Milo’s becoming increasingly popular, there was hardly any room for the workers and customers inside the space. As a result, Pappas and Stefanidis made the difficult decision to close down the deli in 2014, and to focus solely on catering.
But those vodka chicken parms? They’re back, starting tomorrow, October 2, at 11 a.m.

“The biggest thing for me is that I miss the customer interaction. I grew up in that environment,” Pappas said. And he’s thrilled to be bringing Milo’s Deli back to Franklinton. “Franklinton is where it all started with my family,” explained Pappas. “This neighborhood has stood by us and supported us.”
Milo’s Deli, at 401 W. Town St., which was previously Strongwater Food & Spirits, features a full bar, multiple dining areas, and a semiprivate dining area seating 25 people.
You’ll be able to order classics from the original location, like their famous pressed paninis, but also new deli items that showcase the culinary talent of their team. Their made-to-order sandwiches will be placed on homemade schiacciata (imagine a focaccia and flatbread hybrid), but they’ll also offer bread from Audino’s if you’re more in the mood for a traditional sub sandwich. Guests can also expect Italian and Greek staples, such as burrata, mortadella, deli salads, prepared meals, and selections for their full bakery.
If you’re out & about in Franklinton and in a hurry, there’s also a grab & go option, with display cases stacked full of sandwiches, sides, and sweets. If you’re not in a rush, stay and enjoy a cocktail!
And for all those worried about the parking situation–no worries. Free parking is available in the lot across Lucas Street; tickets must be validated.
“We’re excited to show people what we’ve been doing since we shut down,” Pappas exclaimed.
Their hours are 11AM-9PM, Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 11AM-4PM on Sundays. They’re closed on Mondays.
