After nearly two decades of business, popular bottle shop adds cozy wine & cocktail bar to space

Back in the ‘60s, the Grandview-area neighborhood flocked to their local wine shop, called Stewart’s Wine Shop. After it closed, The Twisted Vine filled in the space in 2006, offering the neighborhood a selection of fine and accessible wines. They’ve been located at 1816 W. 5th Ave. ever since, and they’re only continuing to grow.
“For years, we’ve always had a really fun retail component,” explained Sam McClain, the general manager and sommelier at Twisted Vine. He told 614Now that while people were able to enjoy glasses of wine on premise at the shop, it often became crowded, and they felt the need to expand.

“We wanted to build out our offerings, and build out a cocktail program, as well as offer more wine assortments,” said McClain. So, his team at The Twisted Vine did just that.

Two weeks ago, The Twisted Vine II opened in the adjacent parcel (a former dry cleaners) of the original bottle shop. Here, patrons can enjoy craft beers, delicious cocktails and mocktails, and choose from almost 50 wines by the glass, ranging from crisp whites to cozy reds, to trendy roses and sparkling wines for celebrations. The wines rotate and are curated by the season, and they even offer a wine flight that changes every week.
“Our robust wine program is designed for exploration,” McClain emphasized.
Don’t just make The Twisted Vine a pitstop to grab a bottle on the way home! Take a seat, and try something you’ve never had before.
The Twisted Vine II is open Tuesday through Thursday, 3pm – 9pm, Friday & Saturday, 2pm – 10:00pm, and Sunday, 1pm – 7pm. The actual bottle shop is open 10:30am-8pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and closes at 9pm Thursday through Saturday. If you’re looking for a bottle of wine for Sunday dinner, they’re open 1pm – 6pm.
