After opening early last year, upscale eatery closes “until further notice”

Less than a year after its opening, a New Albany eatery announced an indefinite closure.

24 Main, an upscale restaurant located at 24 E. Main St., has closed, at least for the time being. A statement posted to the eatery’s website announced the closure.

“24 Main will be closed until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience,” it reads.

The restaurant, which offers upscale, contemporary fare such as cured wagyu carpaccio and Smoked Manhattans, first opened in the spring of 2024. The concept also leaned into its unique space, a building that formerly operated as a Civil War outpost.

“What I saw here was absolute magic. An 1860s Civic War recruitment depot that had already been stripped down to the studs, so it was ready for us to be able to put in modern conveniences…and make it look like it was from the 1920s and 30s, and to do so in a way that has interesting food and amazing drinks. It was just a complete win-win situation,” 24 Main Director of Operations Jess McCarter said in an April 2024 interview with 614Now.

It’s not clear what caused the closure, or when the eatery plans to reopen.
