After years in the making, anticipated craft brewery announces grand opening
A new, “art-focused” craft brewery is finally ready to launch on the city’s South Side.
Honest Friend Brewing, a concept that was originally announced in 2022, will hold its grand opening on Oct. 31. It’s located at 2112 S. High St., in Steelton Village. The opening date was shared in a social media video posted over the weekend.
The new brewery was created by Chris Carter, a former Seventh Son brewer, Will Gutmann, an attorney with a passion for craft beer, and Kayla Lewis, who will steer the brand’s creative direction.

Honest Friend plans to specialize in lower ABV beers with a focus on balance.
“When we talk about great beer…or really any beverage that you love, I think there’s one quality that always rings true, and that’s balance. Perfect beer is going to be balanced in flavor, yes, but it’s also going to complement you and how you’re feeling and what you’re doing,” Carter said in a social media video. “So whether you’re enjoying a simple Czech Pilsner, or maybe you’re sipping on a pina colada seltzer, or you’re trying some orange, cinnamon, chocolate stout that we just made, I can guarantee you that everything we’re putting out is going to be focused on balance.”
