Owner of nearly 40 year-old Columbus area pizzeria dies

A long-standing member of the Central Ohio culinary scene has passed away.
According to his obituary, Joesph Thomas Gillian, the owner and namesake of Joe’s Pizza in Bexley, died on Feb. 23. He was 63.
A Columbus native, Gillian opened Joe’s Pizza, which is located at 3020 E. Broad St., in 1989. The eatery served Columbus-style pies, subs, salads and more.

“As a generational family business owner he was deeply cherished by his loyal customers whom he called friends,” his obituary reads. “He was a parishioner at St Joseph’s Cathedral. He was a man of strong faith, a hard worker, loved spending time with his family, and traveling the world as a pilgrim.”
After Gillian’s passing, future plans for Joe’s Pizza are currently unclear.
