Breakfast chain sets sights on Central Ohio for first Buckeye State cafe
A Florida-based breakfast brand known for its stuffed French toast, omelets and waffles is headed our way. Keke’s Breakfast Cafe has announced plans to open its first Ohio location in the Columbus area, marking the start of its Midwest expansion.
Jon Ahrendt, Senior Director of Franchise Relations for Keke’s, said the company is currently scouting sites in Westerville, Dublin, Hilliard, New Albany, Upper Arlington and Reynoldsburg. The Columbus region’s mix of young professionals, families and university students – more than 2.2 million residents – made it a standout market, he said.
Keke’s operates more than 50 locations across Florida and is owned by Denny’s Corporation. Each café is locally franchised and serves breakfast and lunch only.

Ahrendt noted that Keke’s single-shift model helps avoid common staffing challenges seen in full-service restaurants, while appealing to employees who prefer daytime schedules.
Individual Keke’s locations typically generate more than $2 million in annual net sales, according to the company. Ahrendt said that success gives the brand confidence as it moves into new regions, beginning with Central Ohio before expanding further into the Midwest.
Keke’s first opened in 2006 in Orlando, selling a bright, family-friendly atmosphere focused on fresh ingredients and made-to-order dishes. The brand has grown steadily throughout the Southeast, earning a following for its hearty breakfasts and diner-style service.
Ahrendt said Keke’s hopes to finalize a Columbus-area site by early 2026, with construction and hiring to follow soon after. No exact address has been announced yet, but franchise recruitment and site evaluations are already underway.
