Central Ohio ice cream shop reopens after decade-long closure

Jack McLaughlin

For 11 years, the Crème Corner in Sunbury remained closed.

Until recently, that is.

The historic Sunbury ice cream shop, which first opened its doors in 1963, officially reopened on June 29 at its original storefront. It’s located at 60 N. Columbus St.

According to the concept’s Facebook page, the Crème Corner was purchased by a local family, the Hanawalts, who now own and operate the Sunbury spot.

Known for its soft serve—with flavors like vanilla, chocolate, orange and rotating seasonal options—the Crème Corner serves a variety of other frozen treats, like its Sunblurrys (soft serve with blended mix-ins), milkshakes and more. The long-standing ice cream shop also offers burgers, hot dogs, pizza and sides.
