Former COBRA chef launching new bike-powered hot dog concept

Jack Dale, a former chef at COBRA on S High St, is launching a new food concept this weekend in Columbus. Things are about to get a little “cheffy” – hot dog style.

“It’s going to be called Cheffy Dawg. So basically it’s a hotdog cart. The whole thing is bicycle-powered, so I will be literally riding it around the city,” Dale told 614Now.

Dale is ready to move onto a new project he can build from the ground up.

“Gives me a chance to start something from scratch, build a business, and let it grow,” said Dale. “In the next year, the plan is to have a brick and mortar. It’s in the works already with a partnership.”

Cheffy Dawg will offer a Dearborn Brand frank from Michigan, a snappy hotdog you won’t be able to find elsewhere in Columbus. Served on a potato bun, there will be a fun, interesting special to try every weekend. The menu will also have some staples, like chili cheese dogs, a breakfast dog where everything is wrapped in an omelette, and classic dog orders too. Cheffy Dawg will have both gluten free and vegan options for diners.

Cheffy Dawg is planning to pop-up weekly at Antiques on High every Saturday, and Seventh Son every Sunday, starting this weekend. Dale will also be regularly riding his cart to smaller events, local markets, private parties, and weddings.

“We want to be kind of a beer, hotdog, brunch kind of vibe,” added Dale. “Those types of trucks have already done well at Seventh Son. People are looking for a Sunday-afternoon-beer-brunch vibe.”

“I have worked in hotels, fine dining, big and small restaurant groups,” explained Dale. “I have also started my own restaurant over the last few years, and I kind of had a joke with a lot of ways I wanted to see things, like what my personal mission is as a chef. To do something that makes people smile, and what everyone loves.”

And to his point, everyone loves hotdogs.

Cheffy Dawg is rolling out the cart this week at Seventh Son, on Sunday July 20th, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. (where they will be every Sunday).
