Columbus’ first dedicated tonkatsu spot opens Downtown

Fans of Japanese cuisine have reason to celebrate. OSAKA TON KOTSU, a restaurant with a passion for tonkatsu, is here. Newly opened in the former Oshio Station location near the Columbus Commons, Osaka Ton Kotsu is the only restaurant in Columbus with a focus on this favorite Japanese dish.

If you haven’t tried tonkatsu, it’s really good. And if you have, chances are you have been waiting for a central Ohio spot that specializes in the meal. The popular order at Osaka Ton Kotsu consists of breaded and deep-fried pork cutlets, served with steamed rice, shredded cabbage and a savory tonkatsu sauce. According to the restaurant, the meal “is comforting, hearty, and versatile, making it a favorite for many in Japan and around the world.”

Open for both lunch and dinner and offering many ingredients imported from Japan, the menu also offers onigiri (rice balls) with a variety of flavors like salmon flake and ginger beef, Katsu Don, Katsu Curry, and chicken-based entrees. The restaurant is owned and operated by a couple who have recently returned to the United States after living in Japan for a number of years. With a dream of opening a restaurant to share authentic Japanese cuisine here in the states, the new spot has been met with excitement and a busy lunchtime rush.

The dining area is intimate, but open to those who want to experience their crispy pork cutlets fresh. Orders can also be placed to go. Check out Osaka Ton Kotsu Monday – Saturday at 194 S. High St. to try this beloved dish for yourself!
