Dave Portnoy buys new luxury oven for struggling Columbus restaurant

A local restaurant’s oven problems couldn’t have come at a worse time.

When Dave Portnoy, founder of Barstool Sports, scored Artisans Pizza Cafe, newly opened at 91 E. 5th Ave., at an 8.1 for his One Bite review, lines were out the door. This score is tied or highest ever here in town. Columbus, and Portnoy, were absolutely loving Artisans’ Neopolitan-style pizzas.

That is, until Artisans Pizza Cafe could no longer make them.

Their pizza oven, which is the heart of their entire business, called it quits on them, and the owner Jasmin Ahmed announced they had to close the pizza-side of the business. People have been calling her every single day asking when they’ll be selling pizza again.

None other than Dave Portnoy himself reached out to her and offered to buy her a brand new pizza oven and help her arrange a grand (re)opening.

“The oven [he bought] is like a Lamborghini,” Jasmine graciously told 614Now. “It’s from Italy, from one of the largest, oldest companies. It’s a badass oven, and so expensive.”

This oven is a next level up for her, she explained. Dave is even sending specialists out next week when it’s delivered to show her how to work it.

“I can’t wait,” she said.

Artisans Pizza Cafe’s new oven should be up and running next month. Follow them on social media for reopening updates!
