Green beer? Shepherd’s Pie? Here’s the best spots to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, according to 614feast

St. Patrick’s Day is almost here! I’m an O’Connell who thinks Guinness, whiskey, and Baileys are great separately year-round, but on March 17th, I take things up a notch with an Irish Slammer (or Dublin Drop, depending on what you call it). If that drink sounds a little too intense, no worries—just grab a green beer (or a non-alcoholic option) and feast on some Irish comfort food instead. Here are my favorite spots to celebrate in Columbus:
Byrne’s Pub (1248 W 3rd Ave)
An iconic, family-owned Irish pub with welcoming vibes, live music, and hearty Irish comfort food. Pair your green beer with:
- Shepherd’s Pie – A generous portion of Guinness stew, topped with mashed potatoes and aged Irish cheddar.
- Bangers & Mash – Grilled smoked sausage over mashed potatoes, topped with grilled onions and rich brown gravy, with pesto green beans on the side.
McClellan’s Pub (6694 Sawmill Rd)
This cozy, whiskey-lover’s paradise features over 800 whiskies, bourbons, and Scotches, making it a great spot to raise a glass on St. Paddy’s Day. For food:
- Reuben Balls – Hand-rolled bites of kraut, corned beef, Swiss cheese, and Thousand Island dressing.
- All Day Irish Breakfast – Two eggs, bangers, sausage patties, bacon, chunky potato hashbrowns, tomato, mushrooms, and toast.

The Dublin Village Tavern (27 S High St, Dublin)
For 25 years, DVT has been a go-to Irish pub in Dublin (Ohio, but it still counts). If you’re celebrating here, I recommend:
- Irish Egg Rolls – Award-winning and stuffed with corned beef, sauerkraut, and Swiss cheese, served with house-made Thousand Island dressing.
- Braised Beef Shepherd’s Pie – Slow-cooked beef in Guinness and red wine with peas, carrots, celery, and onion, baked under mashed potatoes and a breadcrumb crust.
Fado Irish Pub (4022 Townsfair Way)
If you want proper Irish pub vibes, a perfectly poured Guinness, and a full weekend of events, Fado is the place to be.
Two of my must-order dishes:
- Shepherd’s Pie – Ground beef and vegetables in a rich sauce, topped with colcannon (mashed potatoes with cabbage).
- Irish Breakfast – Two eggs, Irish sausages, rashers, black and white pudding, mushrooms, tomatoes, and sourdough toast.
Nostalgia Brewing (81 Mill St STE 150, Gahanna)
Located in charming Creekside, Nostalgia Brewing serves craft beer and pub grub daily, but their March 15th St. Patrick’s Day Party is going to be so fun. Go for the:
- Green beer (because obviously).
- Half-off pretzel bites with their amazing beer cheese.
- Classic Irish fare specials (menu TBA, but trust me—it’ll be a banger).
Wherever you go may the luck of the Irish be with you!
